Have Cameras Gotten Worse?
This Panasonic camera commercial makes think of only a single word: amazing. Too bad camcorders have seemingly gotten worse over the years. That fancy HD-ified whatchamacallit you got for Hanukkah can’t make you look this good on the beach, and in slow mo, can it? Nah, didn’t think so. Tune in for this awesome action here.
Review: Adventureland
Adventurland is the story of James Brennan, a recent college graduate with a noggin full of impeccable vocabulary and lofty esotericisms. When his father takes a pay cut at work, his trip to Europe is called off and his fall plans for grad school are put in jeopardy, leading him to a summer job at the local theme park whose name is the film’s title. There, of course, he falls in love, learns more about himself, and meets all kinds of wacky characters along the way in this refined coming of age comedy.
Setting aside (most of) the raunch and raucousness of 2007’sSuperbad, writer/director Greg Mottola offers us a view of young adults that has become frighteningly rare in Hollywood. Grounded yet hopeful, with limited but sufficient resources, James and his love interest, Em, are relatable and realistic twenty-somethings, not overly ironic Napoleon Dynamites or vacuous shells like those found on NBC’s failedQuarterlife (does anyone even remember that show?). It’s hard to describe their trials without giving away much of the film’s draw, so let’s mostly take a look at the who instead of the what. Continue reading on the candler blog…
Slightly New Design, Happy Holidays too
Hope everyone’s Hanukkah is going swimmingly so far, and Happy Holidays to all others too. Tweaked the design of the blog today a bit. I really like this theme “Emptiness”. Ironically, I’ve opted to fill it up with a ton of crap, just seems more fun that way. Enjoy. See you in 2009.
Got a New Camera, Made a Tiny Movie
SHOT!DEAD from Jonathan Poritsky on Vimeo.
I’m still trying to figure out how to use my Nikon D90 for video. It’s another paradigm shift that involves a steep learning curve, but mark my words kids: Nikon started the revolution. Jim Jannard, while you may be bringing fire to the people in the know, Nikon has delivered to the people who don’t, and that is what matters. Canon will have to compete, which means so will Sony, and so will you, RED. It can only get better from here, so let’s see where it takes us.
Internet Fame And Immortality
Ahhh, internet fame has come my way at last. I made it into this week’s Gizmodo Photoshop Contest Hall of Champions. I get nothing for my efforts, but it was fun anyway. Though I didn’t snag one of the top three titles, I did manage to make it into the post’s main graphic TWICE! Check it out here, and you can see my “winning” photos here and here in glorious Gizmodo immortality, or click the read link to see all the crap I made instead of doing useful things. Read on...
